Plant Spirit Communication Experience

My intention here is to provide details of a personal experience in the hopes that others interested in the topic of Plant Spirit Communication will embrace this ancient method of Knowing and find confidence in their own experiences.

It was nighttime and my throat felt oddly hot and swollen.  I looked in the mirror and discovered I had a hot red rash starting on my throat and moving down onto my upper chest.  Spots on my throat had rasied welts, but it didn't look like hives.  Hmmm.....

My mind went back to a recent energy healing session I had done with a client.  During this session there was an intense energetic exchange, and I remembered they also mentioned having a skin condition.  Did I pick this up and physically manifest it in myself through their energy?  How interesting to be in a situation that was now going to force me to quickly learn how to clear this in myself.

I immediately put several drops of essential oil in a little bit of carrier oil and dabbed it onto the area.  The carrier oil felt a little heavy on my skin, but it was the fastest thing I had immediately available.

The next morning I woke up and it was worse.  I could visibly see the lines of my Stomach meridian outlined in the rash which now had traveled from my throat and upper chest down across my abdomen all the way to my upper legs.  The most concerning area was still at and just below my throat.  This is a Wind-Heat rash.

Start Self-Treatment:
1. Make a topical spritzer:  Witch Hazel, Herbal Hydrosol, 2 essential oils.  Very soothing - immediately lessened the heat (redness) and itching.

2. Drink a tea of Chinese herbs that release the exterior (open the pores) to assist the rash in venting.  I drank this every few hours throughout the day.

3. Diffuse essential oils in the air.  Because the rash was over my lung area, I wanted to breathe in essential oils deeply to assist on the inside, and to support my immune system.

Ask Plant Spirits for Help:
That night I was doing QiGong - a long, slow form called Hun Yuan Qigong.  I was in a deeply quiet and meditative state, feeling wonderful energy flowing througout my body.  In this state, I asked in my mind "Any Plant Spirits out there want to help me out?"

Almost immediately I saw (in my mind) a leaf appear from my left.  As I looked at it, my first thought was "Clover", and I 'heard' "Yes! Yes!"  Then the scene changed and I kept seeing green plants that had red in the middle.  The red color seemed to be important and I finally understood - "Oh, Red Clover?" and I 'heard' "Yes! Yes!"  Now I saw visions of beautiful patches of red clover surrounding a fallen tree.  As I admired this, the dirt around the base of the tree kept being shown to me.  Why is the dirt important?  It's dry, sandy, dusty.  And I understood it meant Clay.  (Yes!)  I have Sonne's #7 Liquid Clay - I need to drink it.  (Yes!)  After this understanding, it was as if the Red Clover and I energetically danced together.

I had never used Red Clover before so needed to research it before moving forward.  I found 2 books on Native American herbs that both stated it is used for skin rashes.  In European American herb use, it is used to cleanse the blood and has an affinity to the neck.  In Chinese herbology it is used to clear toxic heat from the blood.  All of this confirms the herb sounds like an excellent choice.  In addition, because the rash was along my stomach meridian, drinking the liquid clay would help to clear internal toxins from my digestive tract.

I immediately drank a large glass of water with clay and continued to spray my essential oil/hydrosol spritzer.  The next day I purchased Red Clover from our local supplement store and took a dose.  Taking it, I almost immediately felt cold energy moving in my Stomach and Spleen meridians in the lower legs.  It was thin, cold, and moved all the way up to my neck.  Within hours the rash was 75% improved.  Thank you my beautiful Plant Spirit friends!

Red Clover is now one of my honored friends and I will help her fulfill her destiny by using her to help many others.  I know that even though the rash was physical to me, it was more so my teacher.  For this I greatly appreciate it, and thank it for what I learned.

Is Herbal Medicine Influenced By Aliens?

What’s up with talking to plants? Does your plant ever talk to you? Do you answer it back? An amazing number of people are convinced that this is possible and happens all the time. I’m one of them. Almost all great herbalists and 100% of shaman know (i.e. have an internal understanding, belief, undeniable experience) that we communicate with plants.

Wow – interspecies mind vibes, kind of like Spock and the Vulcan Grip mind-meld. You connect with the other being and KNOW truth. Imagine the implications of this. It’s also the way numerous “abductees” experience communication with little grays and such.

I read a fascinating book, “Primary Perception – Biocommunication with Plants, Living Foods, and Human Cells” by Cleve Backster 2003. The author is associated with the invention of the Lie Detector Test and Men Who Stare at Goats (the real thing, not the movie). How cool is that? This guy hooked up a polygraph to plants and did all kinds of thought experiments to show that plants react to what we think! AND he used his research in the military. (Any comments from conspiracy theorists out there?)

Then you have the South American hallucinogenic herb Ayahuasca. This plant is ingested by Shamans to communicate with the Spirits, and also by patients of the shaman (shamen? What is the plural of shaman?) in order to have a healing vision. It’s now popular to travel to South America to go on an Ayahuasca journey. A common vision people report is seeing reptile-type humanoid beings that have something to do with the beginning of the world. (See “Tales of a Shaman’s Apprentice” by Mark J. Plotkin, Ph.D. 1993) Hmmmm…….

On a more conservative level, aromatherapy expert and scientist, Kurt Schnaubelt Ph.D., notes that when plants are introduced into our human body there seems to be a mechanism of communication that even shows intelligence on the part of the plant, as if it knows what needs to happen to help us. He goes on to explore the chemical makeup of essential oils and finds that at times there are compounds of “unknown origin” – we don’t know what they are. (See “Medical Aromatherapy, Healing With Essential Oils” by Kurt Schnaubelt 1999)

So we have plants communicating in our minds, being hooked up to electrodes and studied, associated with the military’s experimentation with LSD, lizard beings that may have started the world and humans, and unknown compounds turning up. I have to ask – is there alien influence going on here? I don’t know the answer to that, but I think its fun to consider the possibility.

Here’s what I do know. One of the best ways to learn about essential oils is to get to know the plant and the oil by talking to it and most importantly, LISTENING with your heart, to what it will tell you when you sincerely ask it. Another of my favorite authors and herbalists, Stephen Harrod Buhner, says “Anything will tell you its secret if you love it enough”.

Plants love to help us – it is their destiny to do this, and they have done a beautiful job of it for several million years now.

About a year ago I had a powerful recurring dream every night for a week. Basically, it was that there is a plant revolution going on now – it’s time – and they will speak loudly to those that can hear them. When I look at the state of our health care system, the greed that has placed “medicine” above human lives, and the mega bacteria we’ve created through our own mishandling of antibiotics, I know that there is an incredible force of nature that has our survival in mind and it’s reaching out. I’m listening. Are you?

Herbs as Teachers

Purple Morning Glories, Plant Teachers
Want to listen to this post? Now you can on our Podcast Channel:

In the Taoist healing practices (and also other tribal and traditional customs), medicinal herbs are used in a very special way. We don’t just take them and expect our symptoms to go away, like a pill. We take them into us as if they are our friends, guardians, and teachers.

“My plant brother, will you teach me why my leg keeps swelling? I want to learn from you and will pay attention to what you tell me.” Plants communicate easily with sincere intention from your heart. They will understand and they love to fulfill their destiny by assisting us.

When I give someone an herbal formula or a special essential oil blend I have already asked the plants if they will help this person, and I know they will. Now it is up to the person taking them to experience and learn from changes in their life as they use the herbs.

For example, ask some of the following questions as you are using herbs (in any form – tea, tincture, decoction, topical):

  • Does your desire for food change?
  • Do you dream differently?
  • How does your breathing change?
  • Any shift in attitudes or emotions?
  • Any changes in the people around you that you relate with on a regular basis?
  • Is sleep different?
  • Is there anything you normally do that you have less of a desire to do?
  • Is there anything you don’t usually do that you suddenly have a desire to do?
  • Any unusual thoughts that keep popping into your mind?
  • Any changes in digestion or elimination?
  • What physical symptoms change?
  • Do you feel anything different about your purpose in life?
When you answer the questions and notice changes, stop and look at what they are teaching you. For example:

You normally eat pasta 3 times a week out of habit. Since taking the herbs you just don’t feel like eating it as much, and instead you would rather have a lighter rice dish. You may be learning that the way you eat is done out of habit rather than by listening to your body, and other foods will help to balance out what is either missing or you are using in excess, and your symptoms will normalize.
Or someone else may go to work, sit down at their desk, and turn on the computer. As they look at their schedule for the day their breath subtly changes and becomes constricted in the mid-chest and shallow. As the day goes on and they continue breathing this way, the energy of their body is getting stuck rather than flowing easily throughout, and they end up with their normal and almost daily afternoon headache. Using herbs, all of a sudden there is an awareness of the tight constriction in their chest, and pondering this, the person has an idea – “What if I breathe deeper? Yes, that feels much better.” There is a moment of beautiful peace and calm as they learn that their breathing was greatly contributing to their symptoms.
This might sound very simple, but it is an extremely profound experience to have. There is no one answer for everyone. It will be unique for you and your circumstances. When you know the herbs are teachers and you listen to them, you will learn amazing things about yourself and how you live your life.
Next time you decide to use herbs, remember this. Open your heart to them, ask them to teach you, and always thank them for what they share with you.
Please remember to consult a qualified and certified herbalist who can ensure you are using herbs appropriate for you, and who will refer you to your medical doctor for any advice on prescribed medications.

Vetiver Vision

My vetiver story takes place in India. It is a very busy marketplace, colorful, hot, and humid. There is a man selling clothing. He is older, short, he is very happy (content) with his life. He has a great family and is quite proud of his children and his home. He is a very wise man.

(Note:  Massage class assignment was to smell the essential oil Vetiver and describe how it makes you feel - tell the story it creates in you.)

Whats in a smell?

Smell is one of our most primitive senses. It has many functions from protecting us from danger to letting us know if something delicious is around to eat. What is most amazing though is how it is tied to memory and mental imagery. Have you even smelled something that brought back a memory of a specific time or place? Or smelled something that just gave you a certain feeling inside? This concept was the basis of this assignment: Clear ones mind and then take a few whiffs of Vetiver, an essential oil, and then write a short story about what you envisioned from the smell.

"I am a young child. Curious and free. Somewhere deep in a heavily wooded forest. It is very green and beautiful. The sun is shining down and it is warm. There is a small cottage that is very homely feeling and a wonderful garden filled with many different plants, herbs, flowers. There are paths that wind through the garden and everything is beautifully put together. Very earthy and natural feeling. There is someone home in the cottage. Smoke is coming from the chimney. Inside there is a little old woman cooking. She looks kind and grandmotherly. There is something brewing in a large pot over a fire. She smiles. Herbs and plants of all kinds are hanging, drying. A lot goes on here despite the peacefulness. The cottage it cozy and welcoming feeling. Back outside I lay in the grass. The air is fresh and there are birds singing in the garden."

Vetiver

A Smell of Vetiver

An old cedar chest stands open in a room in an old Victorian house. It could be in the attic, but there is not the thick layer of dust that is seen in most attics. It is a dark room, but there are gas lamps burning, adding a golden glow to the area surrounding the open chest. On the walls hang heavy red velvet drapes with silky twisted fringe of the same shade of rich red on the edges of the drapes. Only the drapes against the wall are visible in the light of the lamps, no wallboard is visible. The chest, much like an old steamer trunk with an open arched top and metal fittings along the edges, sits on an old braided rug, in shades of red faded to pinks. It too is clean, not covered in dust.

In the trunk are articles of clothing, tenderly folded and put away. On the top of the clothing, wrapped in fragile paper is an old dress, possibly a wedding dress, kind of ecru in color, not white, but not yellowed with age. It is covered entirely in lace and hand beading, the beads sparkle in the soft light of the lamps.

The smell of Vetiver

In class on friday we did a writing exercise where we smelled an essential oil called Vetiver, which I've never heard of before, and we wrote down what image/story came to mind when we smelled it. This is a description of the image that came to my mind:
There is a man in the woods, a father figure, he is a logger and he's stacking fresh cut wood. The sun is shining through the branches of the pine trees. The trees are tall, there's not much underbrush, and the ground is covered with pine needles. The late afternoon sun shining through the trees is creating sun beams because of the particles in the air. It is warm, quiet, and peaceful.
As an afterthought, it also smells like a dry sauna, the wood smell that is brought out with the heat, and the smell of eucalyptus that is usually used in saunas.

Vetiver Oil the Scent that Encourages the Imagination

We were given an assignment in class to smell the scent of a certain essential oil and then write whatever comes to mind from the scent. so I centered myself for a bit then picked up the scent strip and with the inhilation of the scent I let my mind flow. The first picture that came to mind was a fresh green beautiful vegtable garden, where the air that is blowing all around me is fresh, clean , and crisp. Their is a forest of green everywhere the color of green pea pods. I'm reminded of something familar that I can't quite place.

Vetiver Oil Story

In our class, we were asked to write a story after smelling the essential oil "Vetiver". We were told to just write whatever came to mind. After we had written our stories, we were told that this particular essential oil is an Earth element oil. This struck me because earth element has to do with relationships(like family),and cycles (like life and death), both of wich were included in my story. Here it goes:

There's a beautiful scenery with rolling hills and fields of lovely flowers. A woman sits on a blanket. She is young, beautiful, with soft features. Her children run and play, a little girl and boy. They pick a boquette of flowers for their mother- they sing songs and play tag. They have a yellow lab puppy they play fetch with. Laughter fills the air as they roll down the giant grassy hill. Their mother is laying on her stomach, relaxing while she reads and listens to her children play under the hot sun. She feels gratitude for her surroundings and her beautiful family. A wave of sadness comes over her as she thinks about her late husband, who died shortly after her second child was born. She knows that he is with her in spirit, watching over her and her young kids. They are at his very favorite place. There is a beautiful oak tree which they sit under, that has his and her initials in a heart, carved into the trunk.
