Energy Medicine: Born to Heal

Everything – living or unliving – plant, animal, or organism – large or small - stationary or mobile – thought or action – real or surreal – is energy. This energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it is only transferred or transformed from one form to another. Despite our perceived differences and our experience of separation, we are all made up of the same energy and we are all connected. Within every proton and subatomic particle in the nucleus of an atom exists all the energy and information of all the other atoms in the universe. And within every individual lies the ability to connect with universal oneness, the energetic connectivity among all things.

Our thoughts and intentions are powerful forms of energy that fuel our actions and allow us to interact with the world around us. Through our own energetic frequencies, we can attract energy to ourselves, move it within our own bodies and change its frequency, and transfer it to others. This energy exchange can be used to heal ourselves and to assist others in their healing through our energetic connection.

Many modalities for energy healing exist today, and new possibilities arise in every moment and with every thought. Such energetic healing modalities include reiki, qigong, EFT tapping, kinergetics, yoga, and tai chi, among many others. With each of these modalities, universal energy is transferred, moved, stimulated or dissipated to balance the energy within an individual to promote healing. Our intelligent energetic bodies already know what to do, we only need to open our minds and hearts to allow the energy to flow.

Anxiety: Frankincense and Energy Work

Approximately 38 million Americans suffer with chronic anxiety or depression with one out of eight adults currently taking antidepressant medications for these symptoms. While these medications can offer support and benefit on certain occasions, there are many people that do not respond well to this form of treatment. What happens when you need to try something else?

Natural therapies can offer tremendously helpful support in healing the root causes of this epidemic. This approach is much more comprehensive and much less invasive to the brain than using SSRI medications. Oriental medicine looks at the whole mind-body-spirit, and treats on all 3 levels.

Acupuncture

Practiced for over 2,500 years, acupuncture is a branch of Chinese medicine that treats the energetic level of the human body/mind. Did you know acupuncture is usually a profoundly relaxing experience that establishes a deep quality of restoration and balance to the central nervous system? Many people report a pleasant feeling of an altered mind state, floaty, dreamy, or sleepy after treatment. This feeling tends to stick around for a few hours after the treatment and becomes a more continuous experience with repetitive treatment.

Acupuncture works by balancing the flow of Qi, or internal life force, in the body. Energetically, anxiety is considered a byproduct of weakened Qi in the heart or kidneys. Other symptoms such as low back pain, heart palpitations, insomnia, irritability, or nightmares commonly accompany the anxiety and are naturally included as part of the treatment.

Chinese & Western Herbs

There are a number of Chinese herbal formulas that can work wonders for anxiety disorders. Here is a brief list of formulas an acupuncturist may use to treat anxiety followed by several common Western herbs that can be easily found at your local health food store:
  • Peaceful (or Calm) Spirit
  • Salvia and Amber
  • Heavenly Emperor's classic formula
  • Free and Easy Wanderer – one of our favorites!
  • Suan Zao Ren Tang
  • chamomile
  • valerian
  • lemon balm
  • passion flower
Massage Therapy

Many people have found Massage Therapy to have a wonderful effect in relaxing the body-mind and re-integrating a sense of peace and calm into the nervous system. Regular massage, which we suggest either once a week or every other week for about one season, trains our body to attain and maintain a strongly serene state. It can become much easier to avoid or release the feelings that anxiety brings on.

Energy Healing

Many people find light touch/no touch energy healing helps them to reach a mind state that is so relaxed it becomes a mentally transformative experience.  In this altered state, it can feel like floating, energetic sensations throughout the body or in focused areas, and simultaneously being in a deep sleep while being aware of not being asleep.  Medical QiGong Energy Healing uses the same energy pathways as acupuncture, and externally re-balances energy (Qi) flow to assist in healing symptoms.  The therapist helps the energy of your heart and kidneys communicate harmoniously again so that deep healing can occur.

Meditation – QiGong – Tai Chi

Many people find meditation, qigong, and tai chi to be their most powerful allies in healing anxiety. With regular practice of various breathing techniques and tai chi postures, people often feel that they have much more control over their anxiety and that it need not run their life anymore. These practices can be direct gateways to the rest and restore mode of the nervous system. On a deeper level, they can help us forge a spiritual connection with our lives that instills an unshakable sense of trust and safety in the workings of the universe.

From a holistic perspective, our symptoms are never random. There is always a reason why they creep up. In the case of anxiety, it is helpful to disengage from our personal feelings about it and look at the bigger picture. What is the anxiety telling us about ourselves and where we are at in life? Is it a warning sign that something is amiss and needs to be acknowledged or changed? In any regard, the practices mentioned here can offer a profound level of support in getting to the root of the problem and inducing a gentle course in a new direction of calmness and insight.

Natural Therapies for Insomnia

Sleep disorders plague millions of Americans and can be attributed to a variety of causes. Perhaps the main cause of insomnia and restless sleep is the whirlwind pace that most modern people live with day in and day out. Our society emphasizes ‘doing’ much more than ‘being’.

From the perspective of acupuncture, the yin aspect of life is quite depleted for the average modern American.  [

In case you have never heard of yin and yang, these are the polar forces that are reflected in everything in the natural world. Yin is related to stillness, tranquility, and contemplation. Yang is related to movement, accomplishment, and function. We need yin and yang to be in balance within ourselves in order to experience true health and wellbeing.

When we are yin deficient, we easily become restless, irritable, and excessively busy. Our ability to rest and restore is compromised, as we never seem to get a break from the constant activity in our minds and our lives.

This is one of the main dilemmas that we face in terms of experiencing deep states of continuous sleep. We have forgotten how to turn our minds off due to the frantic speed of everything around us and we have become yin deficient.

The common word is stress, but there is a lot more to this picture than is implied. Another way to look at this is that the sympathetic nervous system is on overdrive. We are stuck in fight or flight mode, as we are trying to keep up with our hectic schedules and myriad responsibilities. We have excessive amounts of cortisol and adrenaline in our systems, which keep us feeling amped up and unable to rest.

With the pattern of yin deficiency and a hyperactive sympathetic nervous system, we often feel too warm, excessively thirsty, dried out, and anxious. This pattern is extremely common in menopausal women. Due to the fact that we are in fight or flight, we sometimes can’t tell if we are tired. We often feel wired or manic. Yet other times a deep-seated exhaustion is felt that penetrates into our bones.

There are many other factors that contribute to insomnia, but this is the primary issue that many people are facing. Other potential inputs are nutritional imbalances, suppressed emotions, relationship troubles, hormonal imbalances, and energetic imbalances.

Let’s take a look at a few of the top natural treatment options for insomnia:

1) Acupuncture:
All of the major organs of the body are related to specific kinds of insomnia. For instance, there is a liver/gall bladder insomnia in which one is kept awake strategizing, planning and scheduling their lives at night. This person often can’t turn their minds off unless they read or watch TV before bed. Likewise, there are kidney, heart, lung and spleen forms of insomnia that all have specific manifestations. Acupuncture is an excellent treatment option for insomnia, regardless of its etiology.

For chronic insomnia, we generally recommend receiving acupuncture once a week for 4-6 weeks, then we can assess for progress. Acupuncture helps to restore balance to the central nervous system and harmonize Qi, the functional energy that underlies our general state of health. Qi can either become stagnant, meaning that too much energy is locked up in a certain area or organ, or it can become deficient, meaning that there is not enough energy in an area or organ. Either pattern can cause insomnia and both are treatable with acupuncture.

2) Herbs:
There are many Chinese and Western herbs that can be very helpful for insomnia. Chinese herbs are typically used in combination to create formulas that treat specific patterns of disharmony. Western herbs are frequently used on their own. The great thing about herbs is that they don’t cause the drowsiness and disorientation that many of the Western sedative drugs do. Here is a great list, and our Acupuncturist can help you make an appropriate selection.

·         Valerian: Has mild sedative properties that help to relax the nervous system and calm the mind.
·         Chamomile: Has a mild tranquilizing and calming effect that soothes all major systems of the body.
·         Kava: A highly prized medicinal that is used to alleviate anxiety and induce deeper sleeping patterns. Kava is contraindicated for those with Liver disease.
·         Gui pi tang: A Chinese formula that nourishes the heart and spleen, for insomnia with low energy, nightmares, anxiety, depression, and possibly night sweats.
·         Tian wan bu xin dan: A Chinese formula that balances the relationship between the heart and kidneys, for symptoms such as insomnia, low back pain, anxiety, feeling of heat, thirst, and night sweats.
·         Suan zao ren tang: A Chinese formula that nourishes the heart and liver, for insomnia irritability.
·         An mian pian: A Chinese formula translated as peaceful sleep, for insomnia due to heart blood deficiency.

3) Massage Therapy:  This is the ultimate way of teaching our body how to go into a deeply relaxed state.  Through massage, our muscles relax, circulation flows smoothly, and our mind quiets.  For insomnia, we recommend getting a massage once per week for 5-8 weeks to start making full relaxation a welcome change. We like to reassess at this point to see if continued  weekly massage is still needed, or changing the frequency to a massage every 2-4 weeks would be of better benefit.  The goal is to re-train the body to attain and maintain a state of pure relaxation and great sleep on its own.

4) Energy Healing:
Many people find light touch/no touch energy healing helps them to reach a mind state that is so relaxed it becomes a mentally transformed experience.

5) Meditation and QiGong:
Meditation – either still or gently moving like QiGong, is a deeply restorative practice and can replicate many of the benefits of sleep. In fact, meditation is often considered to be even more beneficial because it can lead to a state of non-thought, which is said by many spiritual traditions to be the deepest state of relaxation and healing possible for human beings. In sleep, our minds are still processing and dreaming. Spend 15 minutes before bed meditating and it will quite likely allow you to fall asleep faster and to sleep more peacefully. Not sure how to do this? We can teach you, and there are many excellent guided meditations.

What Does Energy Healing Feel Like?

Many people are drawn to Energy Healing and have a gnawing curiosity about it.  If you find yourself in this position, read on and enjoy.

Energy Healing is mysterious, powerful, and deeply personal.  There are many sensations, thoughts, emotions, memories, visualizations, and more that are experienced by both the giver and the receiver.  Sometimes these are almost difficult to describe because they can be so unusual to what we recognize as normal, so it is strange to put words to what we feel.

We have found the strong majority of people describe these experiences as physically pleasant and deeply relaxing.  At the same time, profound emotional shifts can occur that seem to directly precipitate internal healing that happens on many levels – including physical symptoms.

The following short case studies are real experiences noted by students in the Medical QiGong Energy Healing Class, and also participants in several of the special Energy Healing Clinics we have offered.

We hope these leave you with a sense of wonder, excitement, and possibility. Magical moments exist in our lives and we don’t have to explain them to benefit from them.

#1: Energy Healing Clinic Reports From Giver and Receiver

During one of our Medical QiGong energy healing clinics, I worked alone on a recipient while Cynthia (the instructor) guided us through the Medical QiGong healing pattern.

The person had his eyes closed and seemed relaxed while lying on the table. Partway through the pattern, he suddenly opened his eyes and looked around. Then he relaxed again and kept his eyes closed for the rest of the treatment.

I felt a good connection in my hands with his energy and also warmth in my hands while working on him.

When we were done and Cynthia asked the recipients for feedback, he was very excited and said that he felt something like out-of-body sensations several times during the treatment. He said that he opened his eyes once because he felt as if he was falling off the table, but he realized that his body hadn’t moved at all. He could feel energy moving inside him throughout the treatment.

This was a very positive experience for him and also for me.

During a follow-up Medical QiGong clinic the next week, I teamed up with a classmate to again work on the same recipient. Cynthia guided us through the energy healing pattern again.

The recipient’s energy field felt even stronger to me this time as we went through the healing pattern. About halfway through, he suddenly whispered, with excitement, “I’m floating!” I whispered back, “Enjoy it!”

My healing partner used the pendulum above his chakras during the treatment, and the pendulum spun very fast in big circles over each chakra.

Near the end of the healing pattern, when Cynthia instructed us to “Pump the Energy” over each of the three Dan Tians, I had trouble pumping down into his energy field with my hands because it had expanded so much. It was pushing back strongly against my hands as I tried to push down.

At the end, the recipient was again very excited about the treatment and reported that he felt as if he was floating above the table while we worked on him.

This was another very positive experience for both the recipient and for the two of us who did the energy healing treatment.

#2: Energy Healing Treatment Following a Heart Attack

While visiting a family member out of state 2 years ago, I had the opportunity to perform a Medical QiGong energy healing pattern we had practiced in class on a middle-aged family friend who had recently experienced a heart attack. He was out of the hospital at that point and was working on life changes to strengthen his heart and his overall health.

The recipient was very open-minded about trying the treatment, which involved the use of crystals in conjunction with the Medical QiGong hand movements. He was familiar with concepts of Medical QiGong energy healing but had never experienced energy healing before.

He appeared to be very relaxed and kept his eyes closed during the treatment, which took about half an hour. When it was over, he reported that he felt calmer, more peaceful, and more relaxed and said that it was a positive experience.

He expressed interest in learning how to do the basic QiGong meditation that the energy healing pattern was based on, so he could continue to work with that at home. I demonstrated how to do the hand movements and also followed up later by emailing him some written instructions.

A month later, he emailed me to report that he was feeling very good and that he was doing the meditation every night before heading to bed. He shared the following: “The meditation helps me purge the daily grind and focus on centering positive thoughts and resting. The follow-up doctor visits confirm my self-diagnosis.”

The great news is that he is continuing to do well two years after the heart attack.
#3: Distance Energy Healing from 4,000 Miles Away

In 2009, I called the assisted-living home where my mom was living (4,000 miles away from Alaska) and asked to speak with her. The director of the home took the phone to my mom and immediately realized that something was wrong with her and that she was experiencing some kind of serious health crisis.

They called an ambulance, and my mom was rushed to the hospital. The director followed the ambulance to the hospital and, once there, reported to me that it didn’t look good and that my mom was fading fast. The doctors didn’t know what was wrong with her, but she was just fading away, as if going into a coma type of state. Her organs were fine, but she was dying.

I had a very strong bond with my mom, and I was not going to just give up on her so easily. I knew that distance energy healing could be very powerful, and I had experimented with it off and on over the years.

I grabbed two very large natural (uncut) crystals, held them against my chest (Heart Center), and began focusing my attention fully on my mom while repeating healing mantras silently in my head, asking the Universe to heal my mom with love and light in that moment and thanking the Universe for healing my mom.

My focus was so clear and so intense. There was nothing else in that moment except my mom and me and my love for her and my appreciation for those in Spirit who were channeling love and healing energy to my mom.

I could feel in my heart that I had made a genuine connection. I had a sense of peace as if everything was going to be okay, and I went to bed.

The next morning, I called my dad to see how my mom was doing. He was in my mom’s hospital room with my brother and my sister-in-law. Dad said that Mom was dying. The doctors thought that she would pass at any time. My heart sank. We began to talk about making funeral arrangements.

All at once, I heard my sister-in-law exclaiming, “She opened her eyes! She’s smiling at me!”

My mom had awakened and was smiling at my family members who were there with her. She was very weak, and she required some special care after that, but she lived a good life for two more months. Those two months gave me the opportunity to fly down and spend several wonderful days with her.

When she did pass away two months after she had nearly died, she left in exactly the same way, just fading out of her body—very peacefully, I think.

I can’t say with certainty that the distance energy healing work that I did for my mom helped extend her life, but I believe that it played a part in her recovery, as did, I’m sure, all of the prayers and good wishes that she received from other loved ones.

#4: Receiving a Distant Energy Healing

I had arranged to receive some distant energy healing, and we had agreed on the day and time it would happen.  These are the notes I made immediately after the experience.

I set a timer to go off at 3:35pm, then laid down a few minutes before 3:00 and started to breathe/meditate and I intended to allow the energetic connection.

Several minutes into it all, I saw (in my mind) an eye.  It saw me and the pupil became a whirlpool that sucked in everything around me, then stopped. For the next few minutes I felt tingling movement, slight pressure going up and down my body.  I had a light spasm in my right lower leg.

At some point - I would guess 8-10 minutes, my teeth started to spontaneously move like shivering, only there was no tension or sensation of being cold at all.  I just allowed it, and this came and went in rushes for maybe 2-3 minutes.

After this, I felt a variety of energetic pressure type sensations.  At one point it was very clearly underneath me, then changed to where I could clearly feel over me, on my left side, then right side, at my head.

I "saw" eyes several times.  A man that looked like Jesus (I'm kind of laughing here because I don't follow any Christian religion) looked at me and as his eyes came closer he was looking directly into my right eye and I had intense energy sensations there for a while.

My teeth shook again, just briefly.

I felt more energetic pressure sensations moving up and down my overall body.  At a certain point the sensations became very vibrational, like my entire body was floating and vibrating at a very fast rate.

Then it all stopped and I only felt myself, very quiet and peaceful, altered mind state was gone and I knew it just ended.  After a moment I picked up the timer and I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was 3:33.

It was a wonderful experience!

#5: Practicing Energy Healing at Home

My husband has been a wonderfully cooperative and appreciative recipient of my energy healing treatments for quite some time.

We have recently been working on two specific areas of concern.  The first is his difficulty maintaining restful sleep, and the second is pain and soreness in his legs which occurs when he stands still for a sustained period of time.

I like to do a little qigong with him before we begin.  I often use crystals and a lovely essential oil spritz to complement each treatment.

I applied a lavender/sage essential oil blend in a carrier oil to his wrists and ankles, as suggested by Cynthia in her Essential Oils Insomnia video.  With relaxing music and dim lights, I administered the energy pattern we practiced most recently in class.

Extending my arms above his reclining body and lowering my hands until I felt a shift in energy, I began the treatment using my hands moving above his body to strengthen and facilitate movement of qi.

I could feel the qi become fuller as I worked.  His breathing became slower and deeper as his body relaxed.  He fell asleep.

The incidence of broken sleep has lessened following treatments and it is easier for him to fall back asleep once awakened.  The pain in his legs, although still present, has become less limiting.

I think energy work is somewhat of a “two-fer”.  Not only does the recipient benefit from the experience, but as the practitioner, I come away from each experience with renewed energy and feeling absolutely wonderful!

#6: Playing Around in Energy Healing Opens to Other Experiences

Several years ago I was working on an automobile. In the 70's and 80's once retired you often bought a Lincoln or Cadillac car.

A woman brought in a Lincoln car that just would not run right. Sometimes it would be fine but many times it was unreliable. She had taken it to many different shops and spent quite a bit of money trying to fix it. The car ended up in my shop.

I was doing all of the usual tests when I noticed what I can only call an odd energy about the car. I glanced up about the same time the car started running really bad.

There in the back seat was her deceased husband. Not for real, but in the spiritual realm. I had to convince him to make his journey. It took about an hour or so but he finally left.

The car ran great after this. I couldn't explain to the owner what I did and I didn't charge her anything. She was ecstatic! She had spent a lot of money on the car with no results. I told her I didn't know what it was or how it got fixed.

#7: How I Feel Receiving Energy Healing

On receiving energy healing, most times I feel warmth or tingly sensations in my fingers or hands.  Sometimes my body will twitch or spontaneously move.

The last time I was on the table on 8/21/16, I felt very strong sensation from my head to my waist, also down my arms.  It was the most intense feeling I ever had – in a very good way. I had to slowly rise from the table and sit for a few minutes to recover from that experience. It left me feeling great!

#8: My Experience Learning Medical QiGong

My experience with Medical QiGong has been incredible. In January 2015 I had very little knowledge of Qi Gong. I knew it had something to do with vibration which equaled sound, right? I’ve discovered through my journey that sound is the ice cube on the iceberg.

My health was in bad shape. I was sleeping when I was not working and I was beginning to have migraines every week. After going to a doctor that told me chronic fatigue syndrome was in my head I decided it was time to look into alternative medicine.

In February 2015 I began to get massage and medical qigong energy healing. My life began to transform. Slowly I was sleeping a little less each week, gaining energy and looking forward to what each day would bring. Now 20 months after starting my journey with medical qigong I have more energy and motivation than I have had in the last 15 years.

We are energetic beings. By encouraging my own energy to flow and with Cynthia’s help my health is better at 50 than it was at 35. The healing has touched me through my emotions and physical status. I have gone from working a desk job and sleeping to becoming a Massage Therapist with time and energy for other activities.

I am still working on the healing process. With the support of a therapist, Cynthia, at Oriental Healing Arts and the support and compassion of the whole staff I am healing and growing in the most wonderful ways.

DEPRESSION: Distant Energy Healing w Medical QiGong

Q:  “I have somebody that’s very close to me who is severely depressed, and they’re receiving medical attention because they’re suicidal. Is there some kind of distant energy healing technique that I can do to help them?”

A: Let me say first, that in a situation like this it is extremely important that if somebody is very depressed and also suicidal, please get them the medical attention that they need. This energy healing technique is not intended to replace proper treatment.

Energy healing does work very well to send love to this person’s heart. It doesn’t matter if they’re on medications or in the hospital. This will work through all of those things.  It is our intention to send them Loving Energy, not to focus on trying to resolve their emotional issues.

Having said that, I’m going to outline a strong energy healing technique in the style of Medical QiGong which is my specialty area.

Medical QiGong Energy Healers go through a lot of training and self-work. One of the most important skills involved in doing energy healing is the ability to connect with your heart, and the ability to deeply feel unconditional love—or at least some degree of love —in your heart, and flowing out of your heart. This is the energy that we’re going to use.

If you can get into the state where you close your eyes and you can feel overwhelming love for this person, you can do this technique.

Feeling Desperation and Fear

When we’re working with someone who has an intense situation, especially if it’s somebody close to us or a family member, it’s very easy to go into the feeling of desperation.

To achieve the best effect, feeling unconditional love is where we need to be. It feels peaceful. It feels calm. It feels like this energy just flows out, and it’s so beautiful. This is what we want to experience.

If we’re experiencing desperation—and it’s really hard not to go there sometimes—we are embodying the energy of extreme fear, which does not work well in Energy Healing.  Fear has too much noise around it.

An example of a thought in desperation is like “I want this person to heal so badly, that I can’t think about anything else.”  There may be begging, promises to change, and even offering something to God in exchange for saving the person.

And with heavy and intense thoughts going on, if you can, you need to get out of that and bring yourself into a place where you are calm and peaceful and you can feel love.

If you cannot bring yourself to this state, it’s best to get somebody else to help you do the Energy Healing, somebody else who can get there, and then they can do this technique along with you.

This is why energy healers will often say it’s a really good idea not to work on your own family - because we can be too deep into desperation mode.

Non-Attachment to the Outcome

We want to make sure that we’re not attached to the outcome. Whatever happens here is an agreement between the Higher Self of the person who’s going to be receiving the energy, and the Creator.

All we’re doing is bringing unconditional love into the situation. Unconditional means there is no condition attached to it. If the person lives, that’s beautiful! That’s amazing! Of course, we’ll be happy with that.

And if the person doesn’t live, we really need to be careful in that area and not go to a place where it’s our fault or it’s a failure or anything like that. That can be really hard.

But we’ve got to be able to see that there’s still beauty in that side, also. One of the only ways to do this is to shine the light from our heart onto our grief. This can be very hard, but at the same time, if we go through enough training in energy healing, we’ll find that there’s a place inside of us that is so peaceful and so deep, that yes, we can actually do this.

Summary of Intention

So, again, all we’re doing here is allowing the strong feeling of unconditional love to grow inside of us, and we’re going to let that flow out through our hands, and we’re going to send this beautiful healing energy to someone else.

LEARNING THE ENERGY HEALING PATTERN

Step 1: Doing it within ourselves (see video for a demonstration)

I’m going to very briefly take us through a QiGong exercise that’s going to be the same thing that we’re going to do for energy healing purposes on the table. We’re going to do it on ourselves first to get an idea of the experience.  It’s a good idea to begin practicing this on a regular basis also.

Three Centers Meditation & The Microcosmic Orbit

Self-Cultivation Practice

This meditation can be done while either sitting or standing.

Start with three deep opening breaths (clearing or cleansing breaths): These are to cleanse or open our energy channels and root ourselves into the earth. They make us pay attention to our breathing and start to put us into a different or special state:
  •                      The first breath is to the upper chest area (Upper Dan Tian).
  •                      The second breath is to the rib cage area (Middle Dan Tian).
  •                      The third breath is to the navel area (Lower Dan Tian)

Then begin the QiGong exercises and breathing as follows:
  • Lower Dan Tian (pelvic or navel area): Start in front of the Lower Dan Tian with your hands a few inches apart and facing one another. Inhale and slowly draw your hands apart out to the sides, keeping them taut. Then exhale and slowly push them back together, to the starting point. Repeat this movement eight times.

  • Middle Dan Tian (digestive area): Start in front of the Middle Dan Tian with your hands a few inches apart and facing one another. Inhale and slowly draw your hands apart out to the sides, keeping them taut. Then exhale and slowly push them back together, to the starting point. Repeat this movement eight times.

  • Upper Dan Tian (heart center area): Start in front of the Upper Dan Tian with your hands a few inches apart and facing one another. Inhale and slowly draw your hands apart out to the sides, keeping them taut. Then exhale and slowly push them back together, to the starting point. Repeat this movement eight times.

  • Chong Mai (central meridian): Start in front of the Lower Dan Tian with your hands a few inches apart and palms facing up. Inhale and slowly raise your hands, keeping your palms facing up, to the Upper Dan Tian or facial area. Keep your hands taut. Then exhale and turn your hands over, so your palms are facing down, and lower them back down to the starting point. Repeat this movement eight times.

  • Lower Dan Tian (pelvic or navel area): Return to the Lower Dan Tian and repeat the opening movement to “pump the energy.” Start with your hands a few inches apart and facing one another. Inhale and slowly draw your hands apart out to the sides of your body, keeping them taut. Then exhale and slowly push them back together, to the starting point. Repeat this movement thirty two times. This helps to build up the energy for the Microcosmic Orbit.

(NOTE: This is a total of 64 breaths, the same number of trigrams in the I-Ching Bagua)

  • Lower Dan Tian (pelvic area): Remain at the Lower Dan Tian and keep your hands stationary here, gently resting one on top of the other against your body. Take a few deep breaths.

  • Microcosmic Orbit: With your hands still resting at the Lower Dan Tian, begin the Microcosmic Orbit by envisioning Qi flowing in a circular pattern up your spine or back (Du Mai or Governing Vessel), over the top of your head, and down your front (Ren Mai or Conception Vessel). Inhale while intending Qi to flow up your Du Mai, and exhale while intending it to flow down your Ren Mai. Repeat this cycle eight times.

Connecting the Heart Center
Next, to connect the Heart Center, we’ll focus on a special acupoint  just above the inner wrist called Pericardium 6.  This point strongly connects to and protects our Heart Center. When someone is depressed or they don’t want to live, we really need to wake up this Pericardium energy and reach the heart and Spirit so they are protected.

Hold your left palm over your right inner wrist.  Connect with the energy at Pericardium 6 and guide it up to your heart center, then back down.  Repeat this cycle eight times on one side, then repeat on the opposite side.

Drawing Down the Heavens to Close

Close with Drawing Down the Heavens: Open your arms wide, extending them out to the sides, with palms facing up, and slowly raise them in a circular motion until your hands nearly meet above your head. Then, with palms facing down, slowly lower your hands side by side in front of your body down to the Lower Dan Tian.

Now it’s time to move to the table to send our Distant Energy Healing.

MEDICAL QIGONG DISTANT ENERGY HEALING TECHNIQUE
(see video for demonstration)

I think it helps a lot to have something to use that represents the person, such as a stuffed animal, a doll, a small green alien, or something to help get into the imagery a little better. You can just use their image in your mind if that works well for you. Sometimes it also helps to have a picture of the person, or their name written out.

Using Essential Oils (optional)

I like to use essential oils when doing energy healing, however this is optional if you don’t have any.  Choose a special oil that you consider to have spiritual properties, such as Pink or Blue Lotus, Rose, Frankincense, Sage, or another one that is very special to you.

Apply a small amount, diluted, and rub into your hands. I love the way this smells, and I really like the feel of the tone/vibration that the energy picks up as it goes through my hands.

I also like to use an energy spray made of a mixture of hydrosols, essential oils, and  flower essences.  This helps to clear the energy field in a way that prepares it to receive the energy healing.  Here’s one of my favorite recipes, and you can also play around and make your own depending on what you have on hand:

In a 1oz bottle with a spritzer top, combine the following:

Rose Hydrosol (or use another Hydrosol you like.  If you don’t have any, use water.)
Holly Flower Essence, 2 drops
Wild Rose Flower Essence, 2 drops
Essential Oils of:
White Sage, 2 drops
Snakeweed, 2 drops
White Champa, 2 drops

Shake well before each use.  Store in the refrigerator and use it within 12 months.

Preparation for Distant Energy Healing Treatment

If you’re using it, begin by spraying the Energy Spritz over the doll or other representation of the person you are sending this energy to.  Otherwise skip this step.

Another optional item to use is crystals. They complement energy healing beautifully and work by amplifying the vibration of the energy, especially when placed on acupoints, energy centers, or chakras.  In the video I use clear quartz and rose quartz, however you can use any you are drawn to.

If using crystals, place one symbolically in or near each palm of your “person” and one over their Heart Center.

Begin to connect with your person:

Form an image of the person in your mind, or if you don’t know the person just use their name. We’re all part of one big energy field, and it’s a really nice way of being able to connect with exactly who we mean by their name.

Close your eyes and become aware of your breath. Really feel your breath in your own Heart Center. Our Heart Center is the place that we want to come from.

Draw Down the Heavens three times.
  • Inhale up and exhale down as if clearing your own channels and rooting your energy into the Earth.
  • The second time, inhale up and exhale down to honor the healing space.
  • The third time, inhale up and exhale down to surround your person’s energy field and root their energy into the Earth.

Just like the self QiGong exercise we did earlier, we’re going to do the same movements over our “person”.

Bring your hands down into the energy field.  Start several feet above and slowly let your hands drift down just until you feel the shift in density from their energy field. It’s usually at least 2 to 3 feet above an actual person that you’ll feel this, and this is the area you want to work in.

Connect  to the Lower Dan Tian, the area below the navel, and just like we did on ourselves, expand and contract your hands while moving with your breath. Do this about eight times.

Connect to the Middle Dan Tian, the solar plexus area, and again, expand and contract your hands while moving with your breath.  You are stimulating the Qi in this area. Do this about eight times.

Remember: While doing this, feel within your heart anything that helps you focus and think about unconditional love.

Connect to the Upper Dan Tian, the throat and head area. Expand and contract your hands while moving with your breath. Do this about eight times.

Next move back down to the Lower Dan Tian. Here, we’re going to connect with Chong Mai, the Central Meridian. It’s rooted in the Lower Dan Tian and we’re going to guide energy as if we’re guiding it right up the center and back down. This meridian is strongly connected to our Spirit because it is the core of our being. Do this about eight times.

Again return to the Lower Dan Tian. We’re going to expand and contract the energy field here again, however this time there is more of an intention to gather Qi with our hands and fill the Lower Dan Tian with it.  Do this about eight times.

Next, pause and circle your hands over the Lower Dan Tian. We’re going to go through the Microcosmic Orbit. Use your hands off to the side with intention of guiding Qi  up the spine and down the front in a nice smooth flow.  Do this about eight times.

Pause at the Lower Dan Tian. We’re going to connect with the Heart Center now. On ourselves we only did one hand at a time, however when we’re working with our distant person, we can do both sides together.

Energetically gather some energy at the Heart Center and guide it out to the hands. Circle over the palms and use your intention to also activate the acupoint Pericardium 6, which calms and protects the heart. Guide that back up to the Heart Center and flow back out to the hands and Pericardium 6. Do this about eight times.

While doing this, close your eyes and let your mind go into your heart to really feel like you’re sending love to this person. You can visualize this energy as white light, as an intention, or even as gold shimmering light washing over them.

When you’re ready to end, circle your hands over the Heart Center and the Lower an Tian, then gently withdraw your hands from their energy field.  Draw Down the Heavens to close, symbolically close up their energy field, and disconnect.

Take a moment to feel gratitude in your heart for being a channel to send to so much love to another Being in need.
